Why Volunteer for us?
All sorts of people volunteer for many different reasons but everyone
finds it challenging, rewarding and varied.
CAB volunteering really
does provide an opportunity to learn new skills and to develop existing
ones. With so many volunteering opportunities on offer, there's
bound to be something that suits you. Nearly one third of the volunteers
who leave the service each year have used their experience to secure paid
work.
If you decide to become a CAB Adviser your training is
accredited by the Open College Network and is respected and valued
throughout the advice sector
All our volunteer roles enable you to
develop specific expertise. You may improve your IT and
organisational skills as an administrator or develop your skills as a
campaigner.
You will get the chance to develop your skills in
various areas, like communication and dealing with the public, increasing
your confidence through practical hands on experience.
It's a
chance to put the skills and experience you already have to good use by
helping others in your local community.
We need people of all ages
and backgrounds and are always looking for people with skills in other
languages in addition to English to train as advisers.
If you are interested in volunteering e-mail
your enquiry to tutor@fod.cabnet.org.uk
or call us on 01594 823937 where we will be
able to discuss opportunities.
Advisers
Without our trained volunteer advisers we
could not continue to meet the demands for advice. We offer an
holistic generalist advice service and all advisers are given free, formal
and on the job training. They are supported every step of the way
and all their expenses are paid.
ATTENTION ALL LAW STUDENTS: If you train as a CAB Adviser, you
can get up to 6 months off your solicitor training contracts.
Administrators / Receptionists
As a CAB
volunteer administrator / receptionist you could be greeting clients,
making appointments and helping with general administration
tasks.
Trustees
Because every CAB is a
registered charity, each has its own Board of Trustees. Some trustee
roles require specific skills but bureaus welcome people of all ages,
backgrounds and experience. Because Trustee Boards tend to meet in
the evenings, you can fit this around a full time job or study. This
could be the voluntary role you are looking for to play a key role in a
vital community organisation.
Campaigners
By using evidence collected from the
clients that the bureau helps, you could help bring about changes in
local, and national, policies and services, which could benefit everyone,
even those who have not used a CAB.
IT Support
You would help bureaus to use IT to provide quality
services to our clients. Citizens Connect (our ambitious IT
programme) introduced a virtual private network right across the service
and helped us to introduce an electronic case management system and
provide access to e-government services to the public.
Fundraisers
Every Citizens Advice Bureau is a
registered charity, reliant on funds from local authorities, companies,
charitable trusts and individuals. Fundraisers are needed to
access funding from different sources.
